« What does the word, “Beatitude” mean?
o Latin word “beautus”, meaning “blessed” or “happy”
o A state of utmost bliss
o Any of the declarations made in the Sermon on the Mount

« What does the First Beatitude mean?
o Total dependence on God, for He is the source of all good things
o Poor in Spirit doesn’t necessarily mean those who are living in poverty

o The promise of the kingdom of GOD for those who are poor in spirit.
o It is the promise of the presence and work of God in one’s life.

o Rich: challenged to share their power, possessions and prestige to those who are impoverished and depressed
o Poor: remain open and trustful to God
o The beatitude demands a real change of heart, this will happen if we will live a good and generous life for others.
